Time Comes For Hard Decision

Now m goin' to be a senior in my meida department. as a year 4 student, I am required to do thesis. unlike other uni, I can choose whether doing research or production for my final project to be graduated. Of course, it is my dilemma to decide which one suit me the best.

I found both options pros and cons. For research, it requires lot of reading and is harder to complete than production, I see. Also, the score is usually less than doing in production. However, the job as researcher, i think, more suit me than production maker. Talkin about production, it is easier but m not good at handling the camera. Moreover, the thesis as a production can affect my future career. of coure, I prefer reseacher to prodution maker.

RESEARCH: more difficult, less score but good future career.
PRODUTION: easier, more score, entertain, but not my favourite future career.

OMG, how can i suppose to do? which one should i choose? m out of my mind now. :(

For emotional counsel, all you need is Dr Love

Thursday, 30 July 2009 15:00

Meet a popular local radio broadcaster who returned from exile overseas to make his living as a relationship therapist and all-around dispenser of advice

Sathya Pholy returned to Cambodia from the US after receiving international therapist certification to become radio's "Dr Love".

Hopefully, my radio show can begin to help them resolve their issues.
With radio an extremely popular medium in Phnom Penh, a great number of the city's youngsters regularly tune in to Love FM 97.5. While listening, they will no doubt have heard the voice of the station's resident self-help guru, Dr Love. But, they may well ask, just who is the man behind the pseudonym? Listeners are familiar with his voice and may have seen his logos or stickers, but they probably don't know much about his ordeal under the Khmer Rouge. As a 14-year-old son of a Khmer Rouge survivor, Love was desperate for a better life and education. Multi-talentedHe managed to escape Cambodia and emigrated to the US in 1984 via Thailand.Nowadays, he could equally be described as an adviser, a counsellor, a lecturer, a radio producer and a presenter, yet the man himself remains a mystery to most of his fans. Firstly, Love's real name is Sathya Pholy, and he is the first Khmer-American to receive an international certificate in Alcohol & Drug Abuse Treatment. He spent over two decades living in America and undoubtedly achieved what was originally referred to as the "American Dream": Namely, access to education and the chance to build an economically sustainable life through hard work and commitment to his job. Here, the Post attempts to get to the bottom of Sathya Pholy's hopes, thoughts and ambitions now that he has returned to his homeland.

First, though, let's clear up that moniker. Why do you call yourself Dr Love?" It is quite simple really; I graduated with a degree in psychology and also hold a PhD in educational psychology from Capella University, which means I am a doctor. Love simply stems from the fact I broadcast on Love FM.

"When can any prospective new listeners catch your show?" The programme airs every Thursday night, and I aim to help solve the love and relationship problems of young Cambodians. Furthermore, I have another show called Family, Community and Relations, which is broadcast on FM 99.5 and also targets Khmer listeners.

" Why do you choose radio as your means?" Mainly because many Cambodians don't want to read, and the illiteracy rate in this country is high. Overall, the education people receive is still poor, but most people can speak and understand the language, which is why radio is the best way to educate them.

"So far, what are the main problems listeners cite?" Cambodians follow the motto 'actions speak louder than words' and never seem to show love, sympathy or forgiveness to their loved ones or people around them. There is a lack of communication between parents and children, husbands and wives, employers and employees. In Cambodian culture, to express love in public is a new phenomenon, and they don't feel comfortable saying it out loud. "If someone's son has done a good job or succeeded at school, the parents will never praise or encourage him, as they think he may become egotistical. However, if their son makes a mistake, they will quickly reprimand him or use bad language towards him. It contrasts with Western culture, where most parents show a great deal of love to their kids and are more patient when they make mistakes. Normally, this helps the child's development and they do not feel upset as often.

" You have received US citizenship, so why did you come back to Cambodia?" I came to share what I have learnt, and know that Cambodian people need experts to help solve their problems. Many of them experienced the trauma of living through the dark regime, which resulted in deep-rooted psychological distress. Hopefully my radio show can begin to help them resolve their issues.

"What do you hope to achieve through the show, and what will you be focusing on?" Firstly, from what I understand, most Cambodians are emotionally and physically traumatised, even the younger generation. They saw their parents use violence to solve problems, so when they face problems of their own, they will follow in their parents' footsteps.

"The two main problems I want to address are education and the lack of communication between people. In terms of education, each individual should be positive. Even if something goes wrong, they should stay optimistic and think, 'If other people can do it, I can too.' "More importantly, love and communication between people is so important. "We have to sit and talk to one another, discuss our problems and use non-violent solutions to sort it out. Love and relationships can bring happiness to even the sternest people, and the country as a whole."

NEED HELP? If you have any questions regarding love and relationships you can contact Dr. Love via: http://healthandlove.org or call Love FM every Thursday night from 9-10pm.

A sporting opportunity to build physical fitness

Who says leisure pursuits in the capital have to involve alcohol? Some residents are working off drinking and dining excess at the new Phnom Penh Sport Club

Photo by: Sovann Philong The Phnom Penh Sports Club has introdcued lanes in its pool for swimmers doing laps.

Some say their under-wear is so small that it looks like a swimsuit and, therefore, feel they don’t have to change.
A POPULAR leisure centre located in the centre of the city, the Phnom Penh Sports Club, is aiming to attract more Cambodians to sport and eventually help raise the standard of sport in the Kingdom to an international level. There is no longer any excuse for sport lovers to simply sit and watch sports on TV; right now, city dwellers are swapping their cramped apartments for facilities including a pool, gym, sauna, steam room, jacuzzi and many others.Clean and well-equippedSince the creation of Phnom Penh Sports Club (PPSC) in January 2009, many residents of the capital, such as Khun Chanvoleak, a university student and Japanese translator, have enjoyed making use of the facilities. ''It is not so different from other clubs, but what I like most is the clean water and variety of new equipment. It gives me motivation to come every week, despite the price," says the 21-year-old, who feels a definite improvement in her overall health and believes this has aided her studies. So Kundawn, the administrative manager and a co-founder of PPSC, agrees, claiming the club is based on the notion that providing access to a healthy lifestyle would help Cambodians perform better at work.He adds that hygiene is a premier concern at the club but admits this can be a difficult message to relay to customers at times."We filter the water every day and run tests to ensure it is clean. Despite this, some customers do not wear proper clothes to swim.
"They say their underwear is so small that it looks like a swimsuit and, therefore, feel they don't have to change. They don't understand that it makes the water dirty."Working at the Ministry of Information, I've seen a lot of intelligent people fall ill and become unable to work because of their poor health and ignorance towards exercise. Here, we care for our customers and do our best to satisfy their needs," says Kundawn, who has been a sport fanatic for nearly 10 years. The PPSC has also identified the youth of the city, who are becoming increasingly obsessed by body image, as potential customers. Rapid growthCurrently, around 600 customers flood through the doors every day, and at weekends that number can increase to 1,000. Unfortunately, this rapid growth does have its downside. Some customers, such as I Leok Narom, feel the club is beginning to struggle under the weight of such considerable demand."The space was so small, we had to wait for our turn to enter a sauna or steam room," says the 21-year-old Norton University student, a weekly customer of the club. Lack of privacyLikewise, Nou Vannsan, an officer from Save the Children Norway, says an overcrowded swimming pool meant she could not enjoy her swim. "I just felt there was no private space to swim at all," she complained. However, following such customer comments, Kundawn asserts he has just created a new, bigger sauna and steam room. Lanes have also been introduced in the pool, enabling customers to enjoy their swim.Furthermore, in line with the increase in demand, the owner is looking to build another sports club. He is also looking into buying new equipment in order to give patrons a greater variety of sports and exercises than ever before.Ping-pong tourneyPerhaps the first step on this ambitious ladder will come sooner than expected, with Kundawn planning to inaugurate a table tennis competition in the upcoming year."It is not a big deal but at least it gives people the incentive to continue enjoying themselves through sport," he concluded.

Teething problems still afflict dental care development

Friday, 29 May 2009 22:02
Written by Lim Seang Heng and Vandeth Dararoath

High costs relative to income put many off treatment for toothache, while poor dental education makes decay a serious problem.

Brush your teeth. BLOOMBERG NEARLY everyone experiences toothache at one time or another. But dental problems occur more frequently in Cambodia, where many people live below the poverty line and education about oral hygiene is rare.Meas Raksmey, a 23-year-old student at the Royal University of Phnom Penh, suffers from toothache but says he tries to ignore the pain, hoping it will soon pass. But often it drags on. "If a toothache hurts like hell, I can't sleep or eat," he said."And a week when my teeth are hurting seems to last a month. My face swells up like a balloon. I've had to skip classes because it grew too painful." According to dentist Chum Mony, most patients only visit his clinic when the pain becomes agonising. "Cambodian patients procrastinate until they cannot deal with their work. They will only visit a doctor when they get seriously ill," he said, adding that financial constraints and people's ignorance of dental problems create the misconception that having dental examinations every six months is a waste of time. However, these kinds of problems would not be so serious, if only we started practicing preventative measures from a young age, Chum Mony said. Sor Chandara, an English teacher who complains about the high price of dental services, still does not have his teeth checked - even though he knows that doing so regularly would keep his teeth healthy. "I have to spend money on food every day, so how can I afford $15 to $20 per check up?" he asked. Education neededMeanwhile, 21-year-old medical student Hor Lat Soriya always takes proper care of her teeth. She thinks that most Cambodians lack knowledge and understanding of dental problems, and that this is a big social concern. "Oral hygiene is crucial since we must communicate every day," she said. "We don't know exactly how many people suffer from dental problems, but I believe many Cambodians have this problem." Brushing your teeth is not enough. Using a mouthwash and floss helps clean them sufficiently, as well as reduces bacteria in the mouth. If left, this bacteria turns into acid and speeds tooth decay. Chum Mony, dentist at Pachem Dental Clinic, suggests that people eat more fruit and vegetables, while those with sensitive teeth should avoid drinking freezing cold or boiling hot liquids.

My favorite Media

Of course, there are lots of kinds of Media. But my favorite one is TV. Usually, I watch it for serving my purpose both in getting news and entertainment. I watch CNN for news and Star World for TV shows, drama, and funny stories. CNN is a good source of getting news. On Star World I love “Two and a half Men” the most as it can make me laugh easily even though it is a bit old story. What the actors talks, what the actors do are really funny. I recommend you guys to watch it if you can. You will be :D :D from the beginning to the end. Well… I usually found out about Germany in DW TV. I can watch it only when broadcasting in English. How about you?How can you found out about Cambodia? ;-)

Trip to Ho Chi Minh City, VN (16 to 19 April 2009)

Going abroad, exploring new things and new places are my favorite things. So my trip to VN is fabulous as it is my first time—new look, new people, new place….

My journey to VN is coincidence. I met my friend, B, in the morning. He planned to go to VN in the afternoon. I, immediately, decide to go with him as I don’t know where to go during Khmer New Year holidays.

I alone with him go there. First day, we left at 2 pm and arrived there at around 8pm. A long the way, we just slept, chit-chat, and listened to music. THAT’S IT!! Since it’s late in the evening and we are tired, we didn’t go anywhere, just a bit playing card (oops! his aunt gave me money playing card, heuy I play chnas teat, doch chea pi bak chet dol heuy)  and sleeping at his aunt’s home. But WAT A SURPRISE!! In the room, there are his parents and his sister. However, as I am a social person and his parents is playful and talkative which I‘ve never though of and his relative is nice, I make myself at home. Hahaha…

Second day is like a family time but it’s not my family, his. I, B, along with his relative went to Dai Nam, 400-ha resort by a 12-tourist car. First I feel a bit clumsy going with his relative (doch mech min derng t) but later MEAN EY ENJOY SERNG EY. Wat I like the most about this resort is a snowing place. It’s really cold out there; I feel like I’m in north pole.. lolz.. I was rolling down on the snow, throwing a snow, taking pic. however, B can’t not stand in the snowing place. Maybe he has never been to western countries heuy merl tov ban jea min arch stand ban. J . Besides, we went sightseeing of rare animal, and swimming at the artificial sea.

Third day is my time in Ho Chi Minh City. I always feel headache whenever I come into the city. I wonder what’s wrong with me- is it because of many people or what? Finally, I found out that because of him. B drives a motor and I’m at the back. He drove like a baby driving (trik trerk trik trerk and a rot a reay penh plov). But god helps me; I’m still survived now. In city, his sisters and her friends guide us around and take us to some shopping places, coffee shops, and do sightseeing at night. Wanna thanks them anyway.

Once we went to Diamond shopping centre, I really love a CONVERS bag. But so sad, I ran out of money $. L..  B said that if I wanna buy, he can lend me some and he also encourage me to buy it. He said “it’s cool and you will be unique wearing this bag to school.” But u now what? After he thinks of my motor, he, immediately, not allow me to buy it. He burst into laughed and said it is look like a bumpkin in the city wearing a cool bag with an suck motor ( ka tap lerng loy, merl motor lerng srĂ©). Oy chher chap..

Fourth day is nothing. Just wake up late till 10 am. Bought cds, went to IT shop, and back to prepare ready for home sweet home, in Cambodia. We left since 2:30pm but arrived in Phnom Penh at 11pm. That’s suck!!! It was such the longest trip I have ever had.

I’m not tired; I don’t know why, but one thing makes me feel QUILTY. Along the way, I once said to my friend that we are now grown up, I want us to be a little bit more mature as sometimes we are too playful. Somehow, I use some bad word telling him “kom ni yeay touk teap teat” and I know he was not satisfied; I even compared him to others. Seriously, it is not the word I wanna say. But unfortunately, It was already come out. In fact, I just wanna tell him that sometimes we should not tease a lot ( ni yeay leng chhrern pek) as it can harm someone. As an example, one of my friend always upset with his friend as she use some bad words to him. However, it is all just misunderstanding. In fact, I want all friends just good together. I don’t want someone upset another and talk behind someone back. THAT’S IT. At the mean time he also said that I shouldn’t have used that word to him. And I found out it’s really my fault. I just wanna be good to him as I know we used to an argument once already. And we just now back to good. I just wanna keep this relationship last long. I hope he understands. I wanna ignore it, in fact. But I now know that what I have ignored so far make me lost lots of good friends already. Thus now here it come to this essay, talking about it.

All in all, he is such a good friend to me, I guess but now sure, although he is sometimes leave me alone, not introducing me to his people or relatives unless I tell him. One more thing, I don’t know whether he is satisfied having me going with or not. but let it be! It happened already. Haha.. Talking about his relative, from the old to the young, they are so playful and helpful. I like them, anyway.

This trip somehow amazing as I can know more new places, more gud people, buying outfit and especially I and my friend can enjoy time together again after a long fight, things I never thought that it will exist.

in front of what? i forget... lolz

Meeting a friend from U.S—Dararith

I can’t say Dararith is my old friend or new friend. I just know him since high school at Preah Sisowat but not close and have lost contact since he’s gone to study away, but now I meet him. It’s such a new friend again; thus, I can’t say my new or old friend. He is such a kind of well known person-clever. He is really, as I knew from his surrounding friends, good at Language both English and French, and Mathematics.

Recently, he back to homeland-Cambodia druing vacation break. Meeting him was also accidentally because I was with Tepy when they had a meeting. We, Dararith, Py, Ya, and I had been to Master Suki Soup Soriya in Aughust 28, 2008. It was a nice moment because everyone seemed to express openly their feeling, thinking, and experience to each other with a smile on faces.

During our eating time, one good topic was raised to discuss. It was about an idea to society. Dararith once raised fund from U.S. citizen in order to help Cambodian people and society. For example, children who were exploited to work on the rubbish pile in Steung Mean Chey, Cambodia. Helping society, children and old people, is what he likes doing. “I’m happy with it although I don’t get money,” he said. At that young age-20, he could help society. I appreciate him.

From what he said, I remind my time in WWF. As I mentioned in my previous headline in this blog, I’m now working at WWF, non-profit NGO working on environment, as volunteer. I still blur whether I really love it or not. Sometimes, I ask myself why I have to do a work without salary whilst my friends working with lots of money. I can’t reach the reason until now; somehow, I might love doing it. I remember my boss once explained me that working as a communication officer is so important if I can see the value. And now I find out its value, at least, I thought I could indirectly help many lives even though they are animal and few people lives as well. By informing and advising to people is also my contribution. Maybe it is a main reason. All in all, I’m also a kind of society lover.

I can’t found out my real interest. I don’t know what is the best job for me. Sometimes I think job with a great amount of money is the best, but sometimes not. That’s really shit. I don’t even my character. I’m sometimes sassy, sometimes shy, sometimes fashion, and sometimes modest. Oh god! I’m going to be mad. I believe what people said Life is so messy and difficult.

Everyone agrees that money is all what people’s need; somehow, it should be in a boundary. “You should do what u can do, don’t always think about money”. People are so greedy. For me, to some extend, I choose to be poor (not so poor, I mean survive, survive) but rich in knowledge better than choose to be rich without knowledge. It is just my idea but I don’t think I could do it. J haha.

We are a lot talking, discussing as well as entertaining. Darartih had seen one scene called Yu Vak Jun Chnerm (superb youth) where one girl was talking and acting like a robot. Py, who was also involved in that program, imitated that action. Everyone laugh a lot. Talking and talking, laughing and laughing make everyone forgot the time. In fact, It took long time already. We have met since 5:30 pm, and the time was 8:30pm immediately. It’s time for me to go home cos it is my uni-leaving time. After leaving restaurant, I told Py to asked Dararith to go with me as I saw him has nothing to ride. Oh poor my mini SL Charly, it has me, Py and Dararith. Yeah! It’s some kinds of fun. Come rain come shine, We at last reach a destination safely. However, I’m a bit crazy on the way back home after throwing Dararith away. The road is calm with no electricity. That’s so freaky!

P.S Dararith is a financial-supported student in USA. He study Engineer at Stanford University. As everyone has known, Standford is one of the top ten universities around the world. It ranks as number 4.

roath, py, ya, and rith at soriya having soup

we went dancing and siging at Rock. Yeah!!!

My Daily Activities During Summer Break

I usually spend my whole vacation without meaning, I think. All my vacations, I do nothing just hanging around, playing sport, or watching TV. However, this 2008 vacation, I think my vacation is very fruitful.

Nowadays, I work for two organizations. One is Voice of America (VOA) and another is World Wildlife Fund (WWF). I work for WWF every Monday, Wednesday, and Friday and VOA for every Tuesday and Thursday, sometimes also in Saturday. I have to work at WWF since 8 am until 5:30 pm. I wake up every 7 am in the morning. Then I prepare myself ready and have breakfast. I often arrive at my office (besides planning ministry) in time. Immediately, I start check my yahoo mail, gmail, facebook, blog. And then I start doing my works. I chat and work at the same time. But seriously, I focus on my work rather to chat. My WWF’s works are making up flyers, brochures, writing article for newsletter, designing, communicating with both with in-and-out WWF staffs, and translating form Khmer to English and vice versa. After I leave at 12 pm, I always go to have lunch near Boeng Keng Korng Market. I finish at 12: 30 pm and then continue to go to CENTRE (guitar class) for studying guitar. I finish at almost 2 pm. Next, I’m back to my office. My working hour is finished at 5:30 but sometimes 6 pm. I don’t go study at SETEC university cos now m having break for exam. After leaveing, I go to eat sth with friends, hang around river bank, and come back home. Talking about VOA, I work every Tue and Thur, I go to VOA office, reading a lot of news from a lot of newspapers. Sometimes, I go out to interview people for my article writing but at 11:15 am to 1: 45 pm I study my English at Australia Centre for Education (ACE). I have lunch at one canteen near ACE during break at 12:30 pm. After leaving, I sometimes hang out with one of my friend who also study at ACE and sometimes go to VOA office or interview. I leave at 5 and continue to do things as every Mon, Wed, and Fri. Saturday and Sunday are my holidays. On that two days I like to sleep late in the morning, hang out with friends, do some sports, or join some events. That’s all I lead my easy life.

First Day of Guita Class

Guitar is one the musical equipments. Studying guitar is my ambitious since long. I want to study for such along time but I dun have a chance to do so. However, I commit myself to do it during this 2008 vacation. Of course, now I can do it. I was introduced by an old friend at ACE called Khemary to one place called centre where a lot of actions are held includes Guitar class. Without further ado, I decide to go immediately. On 20 August 2008 is my first day. My first time it’s a bit hard for me even touching a guitar, I felt clumsy. But it didn’t take long time to adapt to it, maybe I’m talented. For one hour I can study two melody words- A and B. it’s not difficult indeed but what make me not felt good is my finger. They are hurt still now. You know what? I have to push the guitar’s string as hard as I can. It is not easy. My teacher said my fingers will not hurt when they are Kren (khmer word). All in all, now I’m crazy with it and I hope I will pursue it until m good at it.

Tips: you have cut your finger nails cos we need to push guitar’s string with the last end of fingers. Girls, especially, need to be aware.

PS: my teacher named Damson. He is known as a real professional guitar player. I study with a friend-just only two students. Centre is the place I study. This place is opened by one foreigner called Jenn. She is very helpful and kind. One important thing, it doesn’t charge any cent; however, my teacher still good and friendly. If anyone wants to study, come and see me I will guide or give more info. Keyboard is also taught there.

My volunteered job at WWF

On this vacation, I have spent my time working for two organizations both at VOA(The Voice of America) and WWF(World Wildlife Fund). At WWF, I am not working as Reporter like VOA but as a communication officer. I have to complete a project. It is just a one-and-a-half month work. However, working as communication officer is better than working as reporter. Working at the office and rarely goes out is ma favourite. It doesn’t mean I don’t like to meet new people but not just often as working as Reporter.

For one good thing about WWF is working environment. In my office-communication office, I have one laptop connected to internet, air-condition, especially, I can drink coffee everyday :). I like it. It looks so cool for me. Have you seen such a kind of people in the movie-Handsome man with laptop in AC room? I’m sure you used to see and it is like what I’m doing my job nowadays. Cool? I always want to be a kind of people who work such that kind of work. Now I can do it,haha but, it’s not long just 60 days. However, I can taste it. I wish I can do a kind of that job-my beloved job in the future.

Freelance at The Advisor

The Advisor as VOA is the place that I apply for my internship. However, VOA accept me a day before The Advisor, so I have to change my intern to freelance at The Advisor. Ms. Charllote, The Advisor manager, still accepts me as her freelancer. I am really happy cos I got both my internship and freelance. Working with The Advisor is not risky cos it is not mainly focus on politic but entertainment. Working at VOA as internship is not paid just only allowance, but I can earn money form working as a freelance at The Adivosor. I think it’s time for me to work hard on it. Of course, I want to a good writer. I don’t like it but everything around me influence me to do it. I have to do it indeed. This is what I choose to study.

VOA-my internship

As internship is a part of my school curriculum, I have to find somewhere to do it. I have applied for many organizations in Phnom Penh especially UN families. I am really crazy with it. I want to have a better internship; in fact, I don’t like working as a journalist or reporter because I think it takes risk. However, I can’t find any job in UN families-they are too to reply me, so I have to stop thinking to work there. I am a bit worry about my internship because I see everyone now has a job to do but me. My good friend, Kimoan, inform me that VOA has two places available for internship. Hearing that, I am hurry to go to school-DMC. Kimoan also know this news from Vichet-he is also my classmate and the one who contact VOA. Vichet asks me whether I can do this job or not cos it is not easy-I have to go to the field…etc. I said “yes” I can do it. Actually, I don’t like it as I have mentioned but I have no choice. At last, now I’m working as an internship at VOA.

On the June 14, 2008 is my first day at work. I am absolutely surprise. You know VOA is a kind of anti-government organization, that’s why the place is not publicly show its name. I and my friend-Vichet who intern there don’t even know which one-just know it is near Tourism Ministry. At the end we found it because we have call Mr.Mean Veasna, VOA editor, to ask for address. Everything is not exactly what I am expected but a few. Just the first day, they ask me to write one news. For me, what I am expected first is learning from that organization. However, I have to do it because it is a job as a reporter and Mr. Chris, VOA director in Washington D.C. USA, told me that writing news has a same principle as in Radio, that’s why he said I can do it-without teaching. I am asked to give Mr. Brian, country director based in Cambodia, a story idea. He explains me a lot. I like it. Thus, I commit myself to do my work perfect as possible as I can. Although intern at VOA is not really what I was expected, but working with foreigner is what I like. The reason I like it because I can improve both my knowledge on my career and my English language. More importantly, Mr. Chris asked to join VOA staffs meeting tomorrow on 15. Hahaha…. Eating is my favorite. So let see what is going on tomorrow?

As everyone said Working with AKAING(American) can earn a lot of money. One of my friends said I can earn from 50$ to more than 100$ for one news at this VOA. This influences me want to go in deep in this. So now I’m starting to like it. hahaha

Concept of Choosing Spouse in Cambodia

Wedding is a traditional ceremony when 1 couple want to live with each other. Unlike in western countries, Cambodian always celebrates their wedding party before they can live together. Here, I just got 2 sis having wedding party. I really appreciate them because they don’t have any guilty in love before and they have one wonderful wedding party. This party is really meaningful for Cambodian society. Cambodian boys and girls who are over 18 doesn’t mean that they can do anything or live separately from their family but they can when they got married.
Nowadays we can see Cambodian girls in Phnom Penh often have boyfriend before they get married, sometimes not one but a lot-I can say many exes. In Cambodian culture, these activities are considered as bad.
In Cambodia, parents prefer arrange married to unarranged married. They always choose a boy or a girl for their son or daughter. In their concept is that their son and daughter doesn’t have a lot experience in choosing a spouse as they did. That’s why they have to decide for their child. In choosing a spouse for child, parents first look at family whether that family has a bad fame or not. Second, it is about knowledge. The one that they are going to choose has knowledge as their child or not. Usually, a boy has to have more knowledge than a girl but if the girl has more knowledge than a boy, their parents often don’t agree to form a wedding party, at least boys and girls have an equal knowledge. Third, wealthy is also important. Here in Cambodia, people always say “the rich married to the rich and the poor married to the poor”. If one family is far poor than another, a wedding party won’t have either. These are all the main 3—family, knowledge and wealthy. So if you want to married to someone, you have to concentrate on these 3 main points. They rarely think whether their child love the one they choose or not.
For my point of view, I really don’t support arrange married. Although I’m Cambodian, I think living together for such along time before getting married is better than live with each other first and then separate. If we don’t love each other, how can we stay together? One day they will separate indeed. So if we live first, we will know whether we really love that one or not and if we think we really love then we can form a party and it is not easily to separate. That’s why I think concept of western people is not bad.

Sister of brother Rom's Wedding

it is some kinds of fun cos i have met some old friends who i haven't met for such along time. especially with girls cos i have never seen them make up. some are more cute, but some look like a gay.hahaha though they are still cute. moreover, i like seeing my friends dancing. here i got one grandpa. he looks old but his age is just 21 yrs old. he is also the one who i wrote in an article " Piseth-Cambodian Youth, determined to vote". now let's check his video out. it is really gay.

Trip to Kratie, Steung Treng, and Lao Boarder

Sometimes going to the other sides of Cambodia is really fantastic, though there is nothing much to do. before arriving in Steung Treng, Kompong Cham and Kratie are the places where the traveller has to accros. Steung Treng is the north-east part of Cambodia, one part of it is next to Lao boarder. my DMC studenst and my lecturers are going to do research on election in Steung Treng Province, but before that we dropped by Kratie for one day. what interesting me a lot is rinding on a boat and see eravadie dolphin. this kind of this dolphin is not like blue dolphin. As in Cambodia, people always see blue dolphin in Koh Kong Province. These dolphin are brave and like acting in front of audience. by the contrast, eravadie dolphin is very shy. they do not often let people see them. so it 's really hard for me to see it. they just show their top part. although, it is not what i was dreaming of but it is really fun when one tell that he can see it somewhere, everybody look at it but it was already going down. talking back to steung treng, what suprise me the most is people living there. most of them talk Laotian although they know khmer language and some don't even know khmer. i really wonder why people living next to the boader always don't talk khmer. similarly, in poipet people talk in thai language instead of khmer. This character provides some disadvantages to society especially in election. For those Cambodian who can't speak and write khmer, election officers need another person to translate. i think it's really ashame for khmer people who can not speak khmer but another languge. this character should change. however, all in all i really like steung treng cos steung treng has more thing to do like riding bike, eating mi-bok, and so on. i like travelling and learning new things, so it's really happy for me to know about steung treng.

Piseth-Cambodian Youth, determined to vote

“One ballot in my hand can change the Cambodia society,” Piseth said. This one ballot could make Cambodia more develop or fail into the war, so he would try to learn as much as possible about parties before he made his decision.

Most nights, he listens to some radio stations like Radio Free Asia (RFA) and Voice of America (VOA). And he was really interested in election news because he wanted to vote for the right person to lead the country. He knew a lot about election and was anxious to vote.

Now Piseth is eligible to vote. He said he had to go to vote for this upcoming eletcion and he wanted all Cambodian youth who reach the age of 18 go to vote, too.

Vandy Piseth, 21, is a third year student at Cambodian Mekong University. He lives in Sras Chork commune, Daun Penh district. He once voted in commune election in 2007 and now it is the first time for him in this 2008 national election.

For 2007 commune election, Piseth disappointed with a lot of things. He said people were not standing in a queue- no moderator, no waiting number “people who wait are still waiting, and the ones who not, try to get in first without respecting anyone”. He didn't know whether other posts were like him. Moreover, it was hard for him to find his voting post. There are 3 posts in his commune-Sras Chark commune. He knew a room number and a post number but the election officers didn't tell where it was. So he had to find one by one. Although he was really tired, he commited himself to do it.

He got some requests at last for government. First make a tent in front of voting room to protect voters from a hot weather. He said Cambodia now is really hot. Some people won't go to vote if it is so hot, he added especially girl. Moreover, educate to youth in whatever way because he saw more teenagers weren't interested in election, and last make it easy in a voting process.

In order to fulfill as a good citizen, he said he absolutely go to vote and he hopes other Cambodian youth also go to vote.

Culture Day

culture day is celebrated every year since long at IFL-Institute of Foreign Language. the purpose of this party is to keep a good khmer culture and to celebrate the up coming khmer new year with all of students and lecturers.Everyone needs to be formal in dress-maybe i can say we have to wear a traditional one. and this is the second time i join it. i wake up at 8:30 am and prepare myself ready and 9am, my dad took me there. i know i got
some old fren who went there but i was encourage to go there by my DMC friends, so i need to stay with them.Let me talk about sth there. right our behavor not change, everyone start shooting photo since the first time we, dmc students, arrived together. Immediately, Rom, one of my old frens, come and talk to me. sure i go to say hi to him and some of my old fren. but almost the whole party i stay with my dmc fren. u no? i got one fren who i didn't talk to cos we got some problem since last week. she is my god daughter. i dont how can i describe about her but i know she is a good person but i dont a little bit like her behavor- i cannot describe what or which is bad but she is good anyway.for me i'm a kind of a person who don't like to meet the one i argue with although i like them. so always escape from all my old fren cos they stay together. i feel i dont wanna do that but i cant manage to join that group without anything happen. let talking about this first, i dont think i will talk to her back because she refuse to talk to me once and sure i dont like the word she said that how can i dont have her? i want to win that word cos i used to have an argument with one of my fren , and sure i know
that it is my fault and i can manage myself not to talk to him back. and why her? but i got one god brother who called Rom , he is the messenger. he bring the message from me to her and her to me. so i can know sth about her. of course he said she acts like she doesnt angry me. i start to think about it again. and this culture day came, she also join this party. still Rom, he the one who persuade me to talk to her, he find the way or what shd i do. i mean he find a good chance for me to talk to her. and once i walk nearby her, she saw me and immediately throw her eyes away in a naughty attitude. i think i got a hint. at last i found one good song and not stay tuned to ask her to dance with me, first everything is not really cool but then i ask her to join with my media group and i can see that big smile come from her face. and next i start joining with my old fren. a bit cool now but not all. after that, m not only ask her to dance but all. we really got a great time cos no more traditional song, it a techno music. then i feel i getting used to my group now.
ok talking back to the party. it really not as good as before the sound is not loud enough, the joker is not a professional person and lacking of food. but for me what i really like the most is the joke although it not a professional comedian. it has a lot of show like flute player, chapei player, and some other game. and food i got alot with my media fren , on the contrary my old fren dont get enough food. hahaha cos u no? the previous party, we got full of food but this time not much that why the pretend it will have some left. ok after leaving the party we, my old fren, continue to taking photo at Paragon center.
this is the first time i take a photo there. i'm not really like my photo at all cos it not cool for me. i mean my face. hahaha. and it really got more than 2 hours just to take
it. all in all , now m good with my god sister back.

Mock Press Conference

of course, i really got fun and some knowledge out there. what i really interested is IRC ( Information Resource Center) because the room is convenience esp. with the internet. It has factiva-news around the world. It really good for me to do research anyway. i also find it really useful with the grammar book and a lot of kinds of famous newspapers and magazines. moreover it got a branch which called American Corner which stated at PUC-Pannasastra University of Cambodia. i really enjoy reading magazine out there. It just the things outside the press conference. Turning back to the press, i got a technique how to ask the questions. first Mr. Josep A. Mussomeli-Ambassador of U.S in Cambodia come and open the conference. And then Mrs. Piper Campbell, Mrs Deputy Ambassador, comes to give a short talk and answer the questions.
a lot of questions have been asked by students and answered by Mrs deputy ambassador and criticized by Mr Ambassador. it mix up between knowledge and entertainment. Mr Joseph is a kind of funny guy. everybody like him. oops forget to tell u that Mr organizer is the a person who talk very fast, maybe he thinks that we, all DMC students, are english native speaker. hahaha sometimes i can catch it but sometime not- at least i understand. the conference end at 12 pm, and what make everyone crazy is photo taking. maybe we are almost drive him insane. everyone try to take a photo with him- one and one. how can you imagine that there are until 60 people? but not all, only some take photo one and one with him. still can keep our good behavior. i got one too.

Flate Tyre

i dun no whether i spell it right or wrong 'flate tyre'. ok first, today i have to do presentation in afternoon so i came to library to do some research early and when i left library to class, i see my motor got a flat tire. i cant fit it at the moment until i left school at 5pm. when i arrive at motor fixing, i saw 2 motors are waiting to fix their flat tire too. i said to myself ok i can wait. but you know? after fixing that 2 motors, i wish i'll be the next but immediately one pretty girl come and said ' ort tous bong nhom arch som tver moto mun ban te prous k-nhom trov tov pra long ey lov nis ' (excuse me bro, can i have my motor fixing first cos i have an exam right now. ). and yeah how come i say no. absolutely yes. but she left without any thanks to me. hehehehe and i take more than one hour just to do it. so it is over time for me to study at another uni so i decided to sit and write this.
